GTViewer and Pocket GTViewer Used for Damage Assessment During Mock Earthquake Exercise

On June 19th, nearly 100 people in 33 teams used applications built on GTViewer and Pocket GTViewer to collect information about damage likely to result from an earthquake on the New Madrid fault. Teams carried their data to a local Emergency Operations Center (EOC) where it was combined to show the extent of damage over a county-wide area. In a second data concentration effort, reports from all the local EOC’s were collated at the regional level.

The process of collecting and collating the data in local offices and combining these local data sets into a regional view took place more quickly than predicted. Not by the end of the day as expected, but at 1:00 p.m. the same afternoon, emergency management officials could review the pattern of damage at the regional level.
